Department of Early Childhood Care and Education
In the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education, there are two main certificated courses: one for those wishing to become nursery school and kindergarten teachers, and one for those who wish to gain a qualification in childcare. In addition, within the Department of Specialized Study, graduate students may continue their studies and gain fully professional qualifications and certificates for both pre-school teaching and childcare.
Our teaching of childcare and education borrows elements from the basic principles of Buddhism, in particular emphasizing consideration for those around us. Thoughtfulness and attention to the feelings and needs of others are essential aspects to our approach to childcare and education.
Programmes of study conducted at the department are lively, vigorous and thorough. Apart from class instruction, trainees will attend kindergarten, day-nurseries and child welfare institutions located outside the college. Apprentice-student-teachers are stimulated by the excellent environment and conditions in the various instituitions, and
benefit greatly from communication with the highly experienced teachers, staff members and child-carers.
Regarding institutions outside the college, Tsurumi has a close affiliation with the nearby Sanshou Kindergarten. Students are encouraged to visit Sanshou kindergarten at any time and to become acquainted with practices at this excellent school. The high quality of the teaching at the kindergarten derives from the collective experience of the teaching staff, which is both specialized and covers a wide area. This provides a great opportunity for our teacher-training students to learn skills which are at the very forefront of the child-care-education profession. Students will gain invaluable first-hand experience, helping them to become first-rate teachers and child-carers.
Tsurumi Junior College also seeks to support your learning activities and professional career after graduation, and, by doing so, enrich your life. The college provides courses tailored and custom-made for individual needs. Graduates of this college are recognized as kindergarten and nursery school teachers who are very familiar with the fundamentals of childcare, We have many students who indeed enroll in two consecutive courses, in order to get the qualifications as both a childcare professional and a pre-school teacher. Tsurumi offers a high level of teaching in these fields and students will gain great and invaluable experience.
